March 2013

Tony Scopelite
In This Month's Issue of Checking In:

President's Message:

As March begins, Spring teases us with tidbits of her renewal ritual, and in that spirit I’ll tease you with a tidbit from our recent Board of Directors retreat!

One result from the expansive and rich conversation that took place was refinement of our Mission Statement shown below. In the third element of our statement, we add ‘San Francisco Bay Area’ to reinforce the importance of creating community in our unique region. In the last element we add ‘being a model for ICF chapters worldwide’ as an acknowledgement of our wildly innovative and motivated community of members and volunteers on the leading edge in bringing new ideas, energy and practices to chapter activities.

ICF SF Bay Area Coaches is an ICF charter chapter of coaches that:
  • Creates a supportive, fun, and personally fulfilling environment to network, connect with like-minded people, engage in transformational conversations, and share experiences about coaching.
  • Offers relevant, valuable and leading edge programs to both novice and experienced coaches for skill building, ongoing professional growth and mastery, and business development.
  • Fosters the growth of a committed and connected community of professional coaches in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Increases public awareness of the benefits of partnering with a professional coach and refers prospective clients to our members.
  • Is the visible, leading advocate and representative for the coaching profession, committed to advancing the art, science and practice of professional coaching and being a model for ICF chapters worldwide.
In the coming weeks and months, our chapter activities will reflect what we discovered and envisioned at the retreat.  I’ll also be sharing other outcomes in future newsletters.

I look forward to seeing you at the March 13 Gathering!

You’re Invited to a House-Warming!

In 2012, four local ICF chapters married and became one. As with any blended family, many decisions had to be made, and accommodations had to be made when the families merged.

Especially regarding home. Which house had the most bedrooms? The best kitchen? The most bathrooms? Who would have to share rooms? Should we remodel, build from scratch, or buy?

Well, after some minor redecorations to make things livable on a short-term basis, the whole family has moved into a new home, one that is not his, not hers, not theirs, but Ours.

Welcome to the new home of ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches!

Our new home is similar in many ways to our previous websites, with more of what we all want in an online home:

  • Lots of rooms to do all the things we need – host meetings, create profiles, cook up new ideas, sit around and chat, and more.
  • It has a great view from every room, making it easy for visitors to get to know us and for members and visitors to see what’s going on both near and far.
  • It’s easily accessible, with different doors to get to where you want to go.
  • It has lots of closet space for event recordings, profiles and documents.
  • It’s secure. We take safety – both for data and for learning – very seriously.
  • The rumpus room and yard provide a forum for play and exercise and fresh air, and the kettle is always ready when you need a chat and cup of tea.
  • We think it has pretty good curb appeal, too!

Most of all, it’s home. Our home. Your home. Explore, and make yourself comfortable. You even get to decorate your own room! If you can’t find something, we’ll help.

Welcome Home.

Monthly Gathering

Do you really need one more presentation on how to achieve your goals and how to help your clients achieve theirs?  No?
Provoke, Evoke or Go Home
with Michael Stratford, MCC
March 13, 2013
6:30 – 9:00 pm

Coaches can create much more sustainable resonance than many currently are.  In this vibrant presentation leaders, speakers, coaches, and change agents are challenged to provoke meaningful and lasting change and passionately engage in the process of transformation instead of the transactional focus of getting goals accomplished and acquiring more stuff.  Michael will introduce the “Art of Provocative Inquiry” and show how:

  • It addresses the distinction between transformational (being  - shift) coaching and merely transactional coaching (get stuff done).
  • It contextualizes what coaches are really valuable for, which catalyzes a different coaching interaction.
  • Coaches may feel less inclined to ‘play it safe’ with their clients which leads to more powerful conversations.
Coaches will learn:
  • 3 of the Key areas to provoke (there are 7)
  • 3 of the Key ‘evokings’ to call forth (there are 7)
  • The crucial context that makes provoking and evoking seamless
Free for SF Bay Area Coaches members. The cost for guests is $20.

Coaches: Do You Want to Make a Big Shift in Your Business?
Announcing a Special Event for Members of ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches!

ICF San Francisco Bay Area Coaches is pleased to sponsor The Big Shift, a live event hosted by business coach extraordinaire Bill Baren on March 22-24, 2013 here in the Bay Area.
You have an opportunity to claim your ticket to this event for only $97 as part of your membership in the San Francisco Bay Area Coaches. Tickets are regularly $997.  ICF SFBAC is thrilled to be able to secure this generous gift and is excited to share it with members!

This is going to be a magical weekend that over 400 coaches from all over the world are expected to attend.

This event is specifically designed to help you create BIG SHIFTS in your business and your life.

  • If you think about it, making small changes to your business will bring about equally small changes to your results.
  • If you’re interested in creating a very different future in 2013, then this has to happen by design, not by accident.

That’s what the Big Shift Experience is designed to do: You’ll have the experience of creating big shifts in your impact, your income, your visibility, and simply stepping into a bigger version of YOU.

This event will help you exponentially expand your business skills AND shift the inner blocks that get in your way. So that you can say YES to your vision on a whole new level ... and build the solid business to go with it.

If you’re feeling called to create a much bigger vision, and you know something within you is yearning to come forth in a bigger way – then this transformational event is for you.

There will be no livestream, no simulcast, no recordings of the event - it's designed to be an EXPERIENCE that you simply have to be there for.

You can reserve your $97 ticket (an exclusive opportunity for members of ICF SFBAC) here:

Callings: The Power of Passionate Work
with Gregg Levoy

How do we know if we’re following our true callings?

How do we sharpen our senses to cut through the distractions of everyday reality?

How do we hear the calls that are beckoning us?

Any leap you (or those you coach and counsel) want to make in your professional or personal life that will align or re-align you with your passion and sense of purpose, with your deepest values, with a fit between who you are and what you do is, by definition, a calling. Gregg is returning to ICF SFBAC with his powerful and poetic process for going deeper into how and why we choose to do what we do in the world. In this event you will have the opportunity to:

  • Clarify your callings.
  • Work with the resistance that naturally arises.
  • Identify who and what can help you make the changes.
  • Create an action plan of specific steps to anchor callings in your life.
  • Gain a renewed sense of direction and possibilities!

Gregg will be presenting twice for SFBAC members and their guests, clients, friends and family. Both the free event and the intensive one-day workshop will fill quickly so register early.
