President’s Message

Midsummer, Mission, and Meaning
Midsummer, and we are so aware of how quickly the year is moving along. On the board serving SFBAC, we’re pleased about the speakers we’ve scheduled for the remainder of 2014. Going into 2015, it’s our intention to continually search for and invite speakers that can inspire and help move us all forward to be the best coaches we can be. We believe that the world needs us now, and needs the impact we can have in bringing about peace, mindfulness, prosperity and sustainability for all inhabitants of the globe we inhabit.

Each one of us separately can have some impact, but I am continually more amazed by the power we present as a collective, resonant group. We believe that getting to know each other more personally would allow for more meaningful connection between us, so we invite you to participate as much as possible in any activities, such as the mastermind groups, our book club, and the meetings in-person or via RSVP. Please check the schedule for our next book club meeting August 11th in Marin, and join us in welcoming our dynamic speaker Jill Lublin on August 13th.

It is my personal intention to contact as many of you as possible in the coming months… to get your feedback, your wishes, and suggestions. We would love to hear about any speakers you suggest for next year. We also invite you to make suggestions for regional get-togethers, and to attend the book clubs we’re offering. The more we meet and get to know each other, the more we get to learn, grow, become a referral center for each other, and put our collective, powerful energy out into the universe towards a more positive future. This is our mission!

Enjoy a meaningful summer, and see you soon.
—Marijke Hallberg

Speak and Be Heard: How to get your message out there - with Jill Lublin

If your message is great, but no one is listening, it’s worthless. Jill will show you how to market yourself as a professional speaker using her own experience as an international speaker who has shared the stage with Tony Robbins,  Richard Simmons, and Jack Canfield. She’ll show you now to network, benefit from  referrals, masterfully get through interviews, and have your name recognized in all the right circles. Jill’s practical advice for aspiring and established speakers will give them the  tools they need to get their messages out!

“Master of the Media” Jill Lublin is an internationally renowned speaker on the topics of publicity and networking. Author of the best-selling book "Get Noticed Get Referrals" and co-author of the best-sellers Guerrilla Publicity (Adams Media), and Networking Magic (Adams Media), Jill is a master strategist on how to capture attention and increase visibility in the marketplace.

Enneagram Expertise 2
Thanks to our sponsor Enneagram Coaching Programs we’re gaining  three months of articles that delve deeper into the Enneagram. Here’s the second article from Ginger Lapid-Bogda, PhD.

Coaching with the Enneagram | deeper and better coaching
Coaching with the Enneagram helps clients illuminate the root cause(s) of their issues and fuel the fire of  their aspirations by increasing their self-mastery. This includes enhanced self-awareness, increased self-acceptance, and a commitment to self-development. Clients readily tap into the source of their hopes,  dreams, motivations, fears, somatic aspects, mental models, emotional patterns, and more. None of  these are random; at the root of all coaching issues and aspirations, there is a marked consistency by  Enneagram type, and these stem from the worldview of each of the 9 types:

The 9 Enneagram Types | the 9 worldviews

Ones | The world is imperfect; I must correct this.
Twos | The world is full of suffering and need; I must help alleviate this.
Threes | There is a lack of flow or order to how things work; I must create results.
Fours | There is profound despair from our lack of deep connections; I must re-establish these.
Fives | Resources are scarce; I must conserve time, energy, and knowledge.
Sixes | The world is an unpredictable and fearful place; I must find meaning and certainty.
Sevens | The world lacks a bigger plan full of possibilities; I must generate these.
Eights | The powerful try to take advantage of the weak; I must change this.
Nines | Everyone deserves to be respected and heard; I must enable this.

The Enneagram is a 21st century coaching approach for deep growth and transformation.

The Book
Tribal Leaders: Leveraging Natural Groups to Build a Thriving Organization, by Dave Logan, John King, and Halee- Fischer-Wright
Janet Tells About The Book
Available on Amazon or the audio version can be downloaded from free at
Most leaders agree that culture is the critical factor in performance, but can’t define it, measure it, or change it. As a result, the few organizations that get culture right seem magical, and people who try to replicate their success usually end up frustrated and cynical. This book shows two simple steps—diagnosis and then the best treatment that leaders take to build cultures that can do things most people think is impossible: out-innovating, outperforming, creating an immunity to scandals, and having mountains of fun in the process.
The most compelling message I found in this book is the simple way in which the Tribal leadership process has identified the Five Stages of :eadership, and how to identify each stage, and how and what it takes to transform the Stages of Leadership in organizations, teams and families.  There are a number of distinctions that can be put into practice with coaching clients almost immediately.
This book had such a personal impact on me that I have studied the distinctions through Culture Sync, Dave Logan’s consultancy and training program and am now an Approved Tribal Leader ™.  This is why it is my pleasure to lead the discussion of this powerful book.

A chance to plan ahead: Malika Malika is hosting a Book Club meeting with High Tea at her house (SF- Marina District) . She’d like members’ ideas on which book to read. Please email her at with suggestions by EOD 8/3/14, and the book will be announced on the website and also in the September newsletter.

Community Core Values

We’re starting a dialog about about our community's core values. You can find it in our Facebook group - join us there: The current word is “connected.” How does being connected add value to coaching and our community?

If we get a robust dialog going, and a list of words, perhaps it can turn into a position paper or even an e-book about our members’ wisdom. So join the dialog, and please suggest other words for discussion by posting or email

Two opportunities:
Monday, Aug. 18th, 5 to 6:00 p.m. PDT or Tuesday, Aug. 19th, 12 to 1:00 p.m. PDT
Dealing with emotions in business is not a frill. Yet it is so overlooked while people try to pretend nothing is happening. In the meantime, feelings are running the show, and stress is building. The success and financial state of your business has a direct correlation to how you manage, or mismanage, your emotions and those of your staff and clients. When you are aware of your emotions and know how to interpret them and take appropriate action, these same emotions can lead to powerful choices that result in greater success.
