CHAPTER MONTHLY MEETING
RESOURCES & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dear SFBAC Chapter Members,
I think we can all agree that our country (and the world) is experiencing a great disruption. If you have been meeting with coaching clients over the last month, you know that people are upset, anxious and feeling the rush of cortisol that moves us out of our logical thinking and into our “fight or flight” reflex. There have been many wise coaches posting on social media, encouraging us to stay centered in remembering who we are and not to fall prey to fear, anger and upset.
I would like to address the healing power of dreams. Dreams are a subject that have been drawn on caves, written about in sonnets and plays, and recorded in song by a multitude of artists. What are dreams? Is it just our brain processing our worries from the day? Do we step into another ethereal realm to live alternative realities? Are we learning from the angels?
Two weeks ago, we had our annual SFBAC board strategic planning retreat. We invited Kimberly Errigo, a Master Coach, teacher and integrative healer trained in mind-body medicine, to initiate our day-long meeting with a meditation exercise to help us clear, connect and center. This is what I experienced:
My hands are open. As my arms open wider, I feel I am expanding bigger beyond capacity. I see the ocean below me and I feel as if I am embracing the ocean with my arms - no, not arms, with my wings! I am an eagle soaring in the sky. My wings span the width of the ocean. I glide, feel my power and the ease of following the wind currents. The sky before me is filled with puffy clouds.
Behind me, I look back and see dark skies clouding over a mountain range with a single, rocky path winding through the tall boulders. I look forward again and the clouds are parting to a beautiful, blinding light.
This was a powerful waking dream and it has stayed with me these last 10 days. I wanted to know the symbolism of eagles within a dream so I looked it up. “When an eagle appears, you are on notice to be courageous and stretch your limits. Eagle totems appear to inspire (push) you to reach higher and become more than you think you are capable of. They tell you to be courageous and really stretch your limits and see what you can do. They bring a sense of courage and a desire to explore and grow.” Fly Like the Eagle by Trish Phillips
This has given me pause to reflect on an awareness of my heart speaking to me to step up to remember who I am, be courageous, and stand for the core beliefs in the values that I hold dear. As coaches, we need to have compassion for ourselves, so we can be there for our clients. It is our responsibility to also be compassionate for our clients, to call forth their values, encourage and challenge them to continue to dream, commit and manifest the life they want.
Keep dreaming! We need to focus on what we want to manifest and bring into our world, not materialize what we are afraid of. Do not accept the status quo, but rather reach higher and become more than we believe we are capable of. Look at things from a new, higher perspective. Be patient with the present; know that the future holds possibilities that we may not yet be able to see. We are about to take flight.
"Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it."
William Arthur Ward
