MESSAGE (right).jpg
President’s Message

We are in the middle of summer, and already preparing for 2018! This means we are anticipating changes in within our Executive Committee and Directors on our SFBAC Board.

Do you have a passion for helping others thrive? Would you like to have influence in the direction SFBAC offers to its membership? Do you have a call to serve others? Would you welcome the opportunity to collaborate with a team of Brilliant Coaches as part of the ICF-SFBAC Board? If you said YES to any of these questions, I want to hear from YOU! We are in need of several talented individuals to join our Leadership Team and make a difference in the lives of our Member Coaches.

Executive Committee:

  • Treasurer (open)

  • Secretary (starting January 2018)

  • Vice-President (starting January 2018)

  • Membership Director (September)

  • Public Relations Director (open)

Each November, members vote to confirm our next year’s voting Directors - President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. I have had the honor to be your president for the past two years (2.5 by the end of the year), and excited to be welcoming in our current Vice-President, Florian Brody, to be our new president in 2018. I will continue to serve as mentor and advisor on the Executive Committee as the past-president, so don’t count me out yet!

If you are interested in making a positive contribution to our profession by serving on our board or serving on a committee to support our chapter, please contact me at or call me at 707.330.4034. We are excited to discover what’s next with each of you!

With love and gratitude,

“If you want to change the world, you have to change the metaphor.”

―Joseph Campbell

What brought you to coaching?

My eclectic career has always been driven by my passion in guiding people to enhance their life's evolution. This passion has led me to explore a great diversity of the roles in a wide range of locations. My teaching, coaching, and consulting career began in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and has moved me back and forth in the Caribbean, the United States, and China. Those journeys inspired and guided my Doctoral dissertation on the importance and development of multicultural leadership which led to marketing and recruiting for a collegiate study abroad program. I discovered coaching as a profession as I was transitioning away from high education. Coaching has allowed me to build and expand on the best of all that I have experienced and learned – I consider it the best evolution of me.

Why did you join the SFBAC/ICF?

Being new to the Bay Area and owning your own coaching business can be isolating professional experience. Being a member of SFBA/ICF provides me with a professional community and avenue for expanding my skills and opportunities.

Who inspires you?

My clients are my inspiration. I am continually in awe of their courage, their commitment, and their transformations. Their stories led me to write my first book, the little book of MORE: the evolution of YOU.

What's your favorite coaching question?

I ask my favorite coaching question as part of the beginning of each session, "What are three words that describe you right now?" We revisit the words at the end of the session. Everyone who starts the session with words that are limiting and negative, always end the session with three words that are more energetic and positive.

What do you wish you knew as a coach when you were starting out?

I do not think I truly appreciated how much education and marketing we, as ICF coaches still have to do to establish ourselves as a truly mainstream international profession. Coaching is used and abused by my people and organizations; I market certified coaching, as much as I market myself.

What's your latest inspirational read?

My latest inspirational read is The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World. Douglas Abrams masterfully captures the wit, honesty, and wisdom of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in what will be the last meeting of these two great friends. Inspiration on every page, if you use a highlighter–every page can change color.

Annie and Fran will co-facilitate a creative exploration of INTUITION in the context of coaching.

It is said that intuition is always correct but not our interpretation of it. Part of our job as coaches is to honor our intuition in service of creating awareness for our clients as well as moving them forward in some way. Clients come to coaching for change.

We will address key questions, such as:

  • What is INTUITION?
  • How does your INTUITION show up in your coaching conversations?
  • How do you respond to your "gut" in the moment?
  • When are you leading the client with your INTUITION?

Our objectives are to empower your coaching mastery with easier access to this powerful resource that is already within you; to help you act on your intuition as a trusted advisor that can be used as a powerful catalyst of change.

Please come prepared to share your questions, concerns, contributions, and best practices with INTUITION. Annie and Fran will also offer coaching demos. Handout included.

What you will learn:

  • Examples TO DO; examples NOT to do
  • Exploring some sources of intuition
  • How to distinguish opportunities to offer your intuition
  • How to self-manager for contribution versus leading the client
